On Tuesday, Jackson County voters will vote on two sizable tax increases, which would fund both a rolling roof and renovations to both Arrowhead and Kauffman Stadiums. One measure would fund $170 million of the projected $202 million that it would cost to build the rolling roof with a use tax. The other measure would implement a 3/8 cent sales tax, which is expected to provide $425 million of the $525 million that would be spent on renovating both stadiums.

Earlier this year the Chiefs and Royals signed lease agreements which would keep the teams at the Truman Sports Complex through 2031. However, those agreements are dependent upon the passage of both tax measures. If they fail, the lease would become a month-to-month agreement.

NCAA president Myles Brand has indicated that he would push for Kansas City to get the men’s Final Four if the rolling roof for Arrowhead is built Kansas City has already been promised a Super Bowl in 2015 by the NFL if the roof is built and an All-Star Game by Major League Baseball between 2010 and 2015 if renovations are made to Kauffman Stadium
