The Blues challenged Nikolai Khabibulin all night long, pelting the Blackhawks’ goaltender with 46 shots. Only two of them got past the veteran, as St. Louis fell to Chicago 3-2 in overtime. Blues goalie Patrick Lalime stopped 27 of the 30 shots he faced and allowed the deciding goal at the 3:49 mark of overtime, when Kyle Calder beat him with a shot on the right side of the net. It ended a five-game skid for the Blackhawks, in which they lost each game by one goal.

For St. Louis, it was their eighth loss in a row.

Chicago got on top in the first period with goals from Milan Bartovic and Duncan Keith. It was Bartovic’s first goal.

After a scoreless second period, St. Louis bounced back with goals from Kevin Dallman and Trent Whitfield to tie it in the third period.

Blues winger Keith Tkachuk was hit in the face with sticks twice on Wednesday. In the first period he left momentarily to get four stitches. In the second period, he was hit again and needed eight more stitches. He returned again and played 19 minutes.
