The Royals made a decision in the outfield on Wednesday by optioning 33-year old Aaron Guiel back to their Class AAA team in Omaha and going with 24-year old Shane Costa. Guiel hit .351 with two homers and eight RBI’s this spring, while Costa hit .286 with no home runs and six RBI’s. However the decision ultimately came down to youth and Costa’s ability to play all three outfield positions.

The team also sent infielder Joe McEwing to minor league camp and optioned reliever Leo Nunez to their Class AA team in Wichita.

The Royals’ non-pitching roster is now set. The only decisions remaining will be if relievers Steve Andrade, Luke Hudson, Joel Peralta or Steve Stemle make the team. The Royals will pick two of them for the opening day roster. They have until Saturday night to decide.
