Attorney General Jay Nixon has filed a formal objection to a Bush Administration proposal to sell 21,000 acres of the Mark Twain National Forest in the state. The money raised would go to help rural schools, but mostly outside of Missouri. Nixon says it doesn’t make sense to sell off acres of pristine forest for such a low return to Missouri schools. The plan, nationwide is to sell off 300,000 acres and use the proceeds for rural schools throughout the country. Nixon vows to use all legal means to block the sale.
