Legislation calling for higher boat registration fees – to provide more money for the State Water Patrol -has won first-round approval in the State Senate. Almost 60 percent of the boats registered in Missouri are 16 to 26 feet long. If the bill becomes law, fees for those boats would go from the present $20 to $55 for a three-year registration. The Senate still has to take a final vote on the bill before sending it to the House.
