A proposal to charge tolls on a new Mississippi River bridge in St. Louis has received tentative approval in the House. The Missouri Department of Transportation says a private-public partnership with toll charges providing the financing is the only way the state can afford to pay its share of the one billion dollar project. Illinois has resisted placing toll booths on the bridge. One more positive vote in the House sends the legislation to the Senate.
