Royals Move Hernandez Back, May Re-Acquire Graffanino

March 28, 2006 By admin Leave a Comment

The Royals have moved pitcher Runelvys Hernandez from second to fifth in the rotation. He showed up to camp at 280 pounds, 30 pounds over the desired weight the Royals set for him. He has yet to pitch more than four innings this spring.

The Royals may be picking up second baseman Tony Graffanino if the Red Sox put him on waivers today . He would come to Kansas City for the second time, but this time around it would be as a utility player. Mark Grudzielanek will be the starting second baseman. He was traded to Boston last July.

On Monday the team cut infielders Alex Gordon, Chris Clapinski, Wilson Valdez, Benji Gil and Mike Coolbaugh, who were sent to minor league camp. Catcher Paul Phillips was optioned to Omaha.
