Combat decorated Marine, former U.S. Senate candidate, and best-selling author Oliver North spends a day in Jefferson City taking part in a series of events organized by the Vitae Caring Foundation. North, host of Fox News Channel’s “War Stories,” spoke at a luncheon, a dinner, and attended a reception to speak of what he sees as a need to respect life from womb to tomb. North, an abortion opponent, joined Vitae officials in stressing the importance of offering alternatives to young women who are considering terminating pregnancies. He compared abortion to acts of terrorism, saying both actions are examples of innocent individuals being killed. During a dinner speech, North reminded his audience of more than 1,200 people that 2,763 individuals lost their lives during the 9-11 terrorist attacks. He then compared that figure to the approximate number of abortions performed in the United States every day: 2,740. North calls for a changing of attitudes among those dealing with unexpected pregnancies. He says there are options, adding Vitae is doing its part to publicize the alternatives to abortion. The Vitae Caring Foundation’s mission statement claims the organization wants to encourage greater respect for human life and reduce the number of abortions by using mass media education for long-term cultural change.
