Almost four decades after the fact, a Greenwood man has been sentenced for murdering a shipmate while serving aboard a Navy vessel in the Phillipines in 1968. 60-year-old Michael LeBrun has been sentenced to four years in federal prison without parole for the killing of Andrew Muns in January of 1968 after Muns caught LeBrun stealing money from a safe aboard the USS Capacon. LeBrun was a petty officer second class who worked as a supply clerk. Ensign Muns was LeBrun’s superior officer and the ship’s payroll officer. When Muns threatened to report the theft to Naval authorities, LeBrun struck, choked, and strangled Muns. In September of last year, LeBrun pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter.
