House Speaker Downplays Talk of Rift With Governor

March 23, 2006 By admin Leave a Comment

House Speaker Rod Jetton dismisses suggestions that a rift has developed between Republican legislative leaders and Governor Matt Blunt, also a Republican. For instance, Jetton is pushing for a much different proposal on how to spend money generated by the sale of MOHELA assets than the Governor. And Jetton says it appears the House will go along with the Senate on a proposal to eliminate the vehicle safety inspection program, despite Blunt’s opposition. Jetton says this year differs greatly from last year. The difference this year, according to Jetton, is that issues have arisen that nobody campaigned on. He says the public isn’t seeing a rift, just a difference of opinion.
