Buzzer Beaters Wins NAIA Title For Texas Wesleyan In KC

March 22, 2006 By admin Leave a Comment

Ben Hunt’s 25-foot shot with 0.2 seconds remaining gave unseeded Texas Wesleyan an improbable 67-65 win over Oklahoma City to win the NAIA Division I men’s basketball tournament in Kansas City at Municipal Auditorium on Tuesday night.

In the previous possession a 65-64 lead when he hit a free throw, but disaster struck for Oklahoma City when he missed the second one and Hunt grabbed the rebounds and raced down court for the game-winner. Hunt, a native of Australia, finished with a career-high 34 points.

Texas Wesleyan became the second-straight unseeded team to win the title. They finished the season 25-9, while Oklahoma City finished 29-8.
