The Kansas City Chiefs have retained guard Will Shields, signing him to a four year contract extension. There was some question as to whether or not Shields would retire or if the team would have to cut him because he was owed a $5.1 million salary in his final year of his contract. In his new deal, Shields can still retire after 2006 and keep part of his bonus.
