The Blues needed overtime to beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 in St. Louis Monday night. Christian Backman scored his sixth goal of the season at the 3:49 mark of OT to give St. Louis the win.

Rick Nash drew first blood for Columbus, when he beat Blues goaltender Curtis Sanford in the first period. The Blues responded with goals from Scott Young and Mike Glumac in a two-and-a-half minute span in the second period to give St. Louis a 2-1 lead. Jason Chimera re-tied the game at the 17:21 mark of the second.

Jay McClement assisted on all three of St. Louis’ goals.

Sanford had to leave the game at the 12:09 mark of the second period after a collision with Nikolai Zherdev left him with a strained left knee. Patrick Lalime replaced him and both faced 15 shots to make 14 saves.
