Northwest Upsets SBU, Central Falls At D-II Men’s Tournament

At the NCAA Division II men’s basketball tournament, Northwest Missouri St. upset regional host, Southwest Baptist 83-80 in Bolivar to advance to the Sweet 16. NWMSU hit ten straight free throws over the final 1:57 to help seal the victory. SBU was hampered by the absence of senior’s Sheldon Pace and Deon Davis over the final eight minutes of the game due to injuries. Pace had 24 points.

SBU, which won the MIAA Conference regular season and tournament crowns, ends its season with a 27-5 record.

Northwest Missouri St. advances with to face Tarleton St., which knocked off Central Missouri St. 62-59 at the same regional. It was a heart-breaker for the Mules, which lost on a buzzer-beating three-pointer by LaShon Sheffield. Senior Michael Hicks led CMSU with 19 points. They end their season with a record of 24-8.

Northwest Missouri St. will face Tarleton St. on Tuesday night in Bolivar.
