Former Blues head coach Joel Quenneville made his return to the Savvis Center last night and it was bad news for the Blues. Quenneville’s Colorado Avalanche downed St. Louis 2-1 in an overtime shootout. It’s the 10th time this season that the Blues have lost in either overtime or a shootout. Milan Hejduk beat Curtis Sanford, scoring the only goal in the shootout.

Quenneville was fired by the Blues near the end of the 2003-2004 season.

Christian Backman, who won a gold medal with Sweden at the Olympics, scored the first goal of the game on a power-play at the 4:44 mark of the third period. About 10 minutes later, Joe Sakic broke the tie.

Sanford stopped 26 of 27 shots before the shootout.
