The Senate has given preliminary approval to a bill that would crack down on child sexual predators. Senator Matt Bartle of Lee’s Summit, the sponsor, says the legislation has a provision related to lifetime supervision and electronic monitoring of sex offenders. The legislation also contains mandatory prison sentences – 25 years for anyone who commits forcible rape or sodomy against a child under the age of 12. In addition, a grant program would be created to help local law enforcement catch predators trying to lure children through the Internet. One more positive vote in the Senate sends the bill to the House.
