Some Republican State Senators are accusing Attorney General Jay Nixon of meddling in the sale of assets from the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority. Senate Appropriations Chairman Chuck Gross says Nixon is out of bounds in holding hearings on the sale, in promising to see that the assets are properly used, and in filing a lawsuit against the MOHELA board charging it violated the state sunshine law. Appropriations Committee member Senator Gary Nodler of Joplin accuses Nixon of being flippant and unresponsive when he was asked about his actions by the Committee. Republicans have filed an official remonstrance over Nixon’s actions. A remonstrance is an official complaint but it has no legal power.
