The State Senate votes to lift the sales tax from diesel fuel used by farmers. Farmers don’t pay the standard fuel tax for fuels used on the farm, but they do pay a sales tax, which other motorists don’t pay. Senator David Klindt of Bethany says the removal of the sales tax should have been done years ago. He says it wasn’t a problem when diesel fuel was 30 or 40 cents a gallon. But it has become an issue since diesel fuel topped $3 a gallon last fall. The bill now goes to the House.
