State homeland security officials have raised concerns about a plan to bring in foreign freight to Kansas City. The plan is to have Asian freight shipped into a port in Mexico, run by a Chinese company, and then have the cargo containers put on a rail line and shipped to Kansas City, where U.S. Customs officials would have their first look at them. Missouri Homeland Security Coordinator Paul Fennewald is concerned about any potential homeland security problems that might bring. And, Fennewald says no one from the federal government has contacted him about this issue. U.S. Customs officials involved in the project would not comment because there are continuing negotiations to set up the port, but an official with the not-for-profit group in Kansas City backing the idea says it is completely safe.
