Legislation to end voter fraud has been presented to a Senate committee. Senator Delbert Scott of Lowry City, the sponsor, says this legislation will make it easier for those entitled to vote to cast ballots. And, it would make it more difficult for those not eligible to vote to break the law. At the heart of the legislation is a requirement that photo identification, such as a driver’s license, be presented at polling stations. The legislation is opposed by Secretary of State Robin Carnahan, the state’s election authority. Rich Lamb, with the Secretary of State’s office, says the photo ID requirement would work against legitimate voters by presenting them with a burden. Under the legislation, those without driver’s licenses could be presented with state photo IDs free of charge.
