The UMKC basketball team topped Chicago St. 82-81 in double overtime thanks to the steady nerves of Dee Ayuba. The junior forward hit four straight free throws in the final minute of the second OT to seal the win. Ayuba led the way for the Kangaroos with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Teammate Kalu Guasco scored 19 points and grabbed 10 boards. UMKC was without leading scorer Quinton Day, who has a sprained ankle.

UMKC probably felt that the overtimes shouldn’t have been necessary, considering they led 61-45 with 5:28 to go in the regulation. But Chicago State went on a 25-9 run to force overtime. David Holston hit a three-pointer that bounced on the rim and fell in with five seconds remaining to tie the game at 70-70 and force OT. Holston and Kourtney Calvin scored 22 apiece to lead CSU.

UMKC improved to 10-12 overall and 7-4 in the Mid-Continent Conference, while Chicago St. fell to 4-17 and 3-7.
