While many have been praising Tuesday night’s State of the Union address, a traditional Republican backer is not totally pleased with some of the message. Gary Marshall, CEO of the Missouri Corn Growers, is not happy that President Bush went out of his way to point out ethanol does not have to be made from Midwestern corn. But Marshall does believe any push for ethanol, even if it’s made from switch grass or other bio-masses, would be good for Missouri’s corn industry because it would build demand for the product. He believes corn-based ethanol would end up competing well and benefit from that demand. The National Corn Growers has heaped praise for the ethanol comments. Marshall says maybe they were thinking of previous actions by the President that do help ethanol.
