Stem Cell Opponents Appealing Ruling on Ballot Language

January 27, 2006 By admin Leave a Comment

Opponents of a proposed state constitutional amendment protecting stem cell research in Missouri will appeal last week’s decision to let the measure go forward. A Cole County judge ruled the ballot language is fair and accurate. Kevin Theriot, lead lawyer for the group trying to get the language changed, says the measure is misleading because it purports to ban all human cloning but does allow for somatic cell nuclear transfer, a type of cloning in his clients’ minds. A State Court of Appeals in Kansas City will review last week’s court transcripts. Theriot feels confident it will overrule the Cole County decision.
