The St. Louis Blues snapped another nasty streak on Monday with a 4-0 shutout of the Canucks. The Blues last win was back on January 2 and also came against Vancouver.
Curtis Sanford held on for his third shutout of the season by stopping 34 shots. His biggest challenge came in the third period, as the Canucks put 21 shots on goal over the final 20 minutes of the game. They had just 13 shots on goal in the first two periods combined.
Mike Sillinger netted his team-leading 19th goal at the 16:24 mark of the first period, scoring for the fifth-straight game. The tally came on a power-play and was assisted by Scott Young and Doug Weight.
Vladimir Orszgah, who was claimed off waivers from Phoenix recently, scored his first goal with St. Louis at the 17:06 mark of the second period. Kevin Dallman and Christian Backman were credited with assists.
Backman made it 3-0 with a goal just 1:38 into the third period and Petr Cajanek got an empty-net goal with 40 seconds to go for the 4-0 final.
