Ford Announces Restructuring That Will Close Hazelwood Plant

January 23, 2006 By admin Leave a Comment

The Ford Motor Company has announced a major restructuring that will see 14 plants – including the Hazelwood plant in St. Louis County – shut down by 2008. Ford President Bill Ford says changes made in recent years have helped, but much more must be done to keep Ford competetive. The Hazelwood facility employs 1,450. The Hazelwood workforce represents a fraction of the 25,000 to 30,000 people who will lose their jobs as a result of the restructuring. The Ford Explorer is made in Hazelwood and in Louisville, Kentucky. All production of that vehicle will now shift to Louisville.
