Congressman Says Farm Subsidy Cuts up in the Air

January 23, 2006 By admin Leave a Comment

A Missouri Congressman acknowledges that pressure has been building in Washington to cut farm subsidies. But northeast Missouri Congressman Kenny Hulshof says he doesn’t see any subsidies cut in this country unless the United States gets assurances from the European Union that it will cut its subsidies and let more American farm products into its markets. Hulshof says a meeting between farm-state Congressmen and the Agriculture Ambassador for the EU delivered a pointed message that the EU’s protectionist measures must go. Hulshof says Congress hasn’t even begun drafting the next farm bill, but has already heard from the White House that the Bush Administration wants a reduction in farm subsidies.
