Attorney General Jay Nixon is seeking a court order to stop an Internet business and its owners from offering to sell the records of cell phone customers. The defendants, who do business online as Locatecell.com and a number of other names, are violating state consumer protection laws. According to the defendants’ Web site at www.locatecell.com, for $65, anyone can enter a cell phone number and then will receive the name and address of the cell phone user. For $110, anyone can enter a cell phone number and Locatecell.com will provide a list of calls made from that number. Nixon says the defendants do not have authorization to access this personal customer information.
