A federal judge has blocked the February 1st scheduled execution of Michael Taylor until evidence can be heard challenging lethal injection as a method of execution. Lawyers for Taylor say the three-drug injection system is not necessary to kill an inmate and creates a risk for gratuitous pain. Taylor faces a death sentence for the rape and murder of a 15-year old Kansas City girl in 1989. Federal Judge Scott Wright plans a hearing on February 21st. He’s also reserved time on the 22nd if it’s needed. Attorney General Jay Nixon says he’ll appeal the delaying order.
