The Blues staged an impressive comeback, but in the end the result was the same as the previous six games in a 5-3 loss to the Devils. New Jersey jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period when Brian Gionta scored his 27th and 28th goals at the 3:24 and 11:20 marks.

At the 8:28 mark of the second period John Madden gave New Jersey a 3-0 edge with his eighth goal of the season. That’s when Blues head coach Mike Kitchen pulled goaltender Curtis Sanford, who allowed the three goals on just eleven shots. Jason Bacashihua filled in and made seven saves.

Then the Blues rallied. Dennis Wideman scored on a power play goal about two minutes later to put St. Louis on the board. In the third Doug Weight and Mike Sillinger beat Martin Brodeur with goals in a 1:20 span.

It remained 3-3 until the 11:21 mark, when Grant Marshall earned his fifth goal of the season to make it 4-3 Devils. Jay Pandolfo scored an empty-net goal with ten seconds remaining to make it 5-3.

The Blues have lost seven in a row.
