As many as 14,000 Missourians who are both Medicare and Medicaid eligible are faced with problems stemming from implementation of the new federal prescription drug benefit. And, Governor Matt Blunt wants so-called dual eligible Missourians to know they will not be abandoned as the new drug program replaces the Missouri SeniorRx program. These Missourians are being temporarily placed on the state’s Medicaid roll until U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt and his Department eliminate the glitches. The big glitch has to do with an auto-enrollment process in which some dual eligible Missourians should have been automatically enrolled in the new program, but were left out. Others were auto-enrolled in plans that do not meet their drug needs. Blunt insists the federal benefit is a good program, and expects the glitches to be worked out very soon.
