Energy assistance has been put on the fast track in the legislature. The House has approved a $6-Million plus appropriation to the Utilicare program, acting in one day to approve the measure and send it to the Senate. The money can be used to help those whose income does not exceed 125 percent of poverty. The Department of Social Services administers the Utilicare program, distributing assitance through community action agencies. $6-Million is the maximum the Generaly Assembly can put into the program under state statutes.
