Williams Won’t Take Over Rams Or Chiefs

January 4, 2006 By admin Leave a Comment

If the Chiefs or Rams were interested in hiring Redskins assistant Gregg Williams, they can scratch him off their respective lists. Williams was signed to a three-year contract extension with Washington on Tuesday. The deal is reported to be worth $8 million.

The Rams will reportedly talk to Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera later this week and Giants defensive coordinator Tim Lewis next week, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The Kansas City Star reported on Wednesday morning that the Ravens granted the Chiefs permission to speak with their offensive coordinator Jim Fassel, who was the Giants coach in their run to the Super Bowl XXXV.

Chiefs offensive coordinator Al Saunders, who has interviewed for the vacancy left by Vermeil, interviewed for the Vikings coaching job yesterday.

Chiefs President and General Manager Carl Peterson said yesterday that his new contract, which begins in February, will be his last with the Kansas City Chiefs. Peterson’s deal is for four years. He was hired in 1989.
