New Year Brings Changes to Lawyer Advertising

January 3, 2006 By admin Leave a Comment

The start of the New Year means new restrictions on lawyer advertising are now in effect. You’ve probably seen those ads all but guaranteeing big settlements in civil cases. A panel put together by The Missouri Bar wants less confusion and certainly no deception in advertising. St. Louis attorney Mark Levison, who chaired the panel, also wants an end to the vilification of opponents in civil cases. Levison says it’s sufficient to advise potential clients of their options under the law. Levison says that while he wouldn’t call lawyer advertising deceptive, lawyers cannot create an unjustified expectation about results that can be achieved.
