A new law regarding the purchase and sale of vehicles and trailers is now in effect. As of the first of the year, the Revenue Department requires anyone selling a vehicle in a private transaction to notify the Department within 30 days. The Department’s Maura Browning says the necessary forms are available at fee offices so as to make the requirement easy to adhere to. Browning says the previous law required only the purchaser to report the sale, and that presented problems when the buyer didn’t report the transaction in a timely manner. She says the failure to report meant the Department was not aware of the actual owner of a vehicle.
