The State Tax Commission has some mixed news for Missouri farmers. The good news is that Commission members have voted to suggest to the Legislature to keep farmland productivity values for 2007 and 2008 at current levels. Commission Chairman Bruce Davis says the good news is property taxes should remain the same, but it also means that farmers are not very profitable. Davis says farmers are having to survive on too thin of margins. Davis adds if local entities raise the tax rates, farmers could still pay higher taxes, despite the land’s value staying the same.
