House Democrats say political appointees shouldn’t be part of the political process. They have proposed that officials appointed to their positions by the Governor not be allowed to contribute to political campaigns. Representative Beth Low of Kansas City points out people Blunt nominated gave more than $260,000 to Republican causes this year. She says she realizes Democrats have followed a similar pattern when they held the Governor’s office. A spokesman for the Governor dismisses the proposal, saying that Governor Matt Blunt’s appointees have proven to be effective and that people should be free to contribute to the political campaigns they favor.
