House Democrats are putting forward a series of job creation proposals as part of their Moving Missouri Forward agenda for the 2006 legislative session. House Democratic Leader Jeff Harris of Columbia says there are several components to the job creation plan, including one to eliminate the state sales tax on vehicles manufactured or assembled in Missouri. The plan also proposes giving Missouri businesses greater preference when bidding for state contracts. In cases in which the quality of service is equal, a Missouri firm would win the contract if its bid is within 5 percent of the lowest bidder. Another element of the plan would establish a single point of entry into state government for regulatory and licensing services. This would cut down on the red tape.
