Man Busted in Special Olympics Fraudulent Fund-Raising Scheme

December 6, 2005 By admin

A telephone tip from a Special Olympics volunteer in Pittsburg, Kansas, has led to felony charges being filed in Joplin against a man accused of using the Special Olympics in a fraudulent fund-raising scheme. Missouri Special Olympics President Mike Musso says he was told somebody had set up dozens of donation boxes in businesses in southwest Missouri, southeast Kansas, and northeast Oklahoma. Musso contacted the Attorney General, who contacted Joplin police, who arrested a man within a matter of hours. Two other men are under scrutiny.
