The Saint Louis University men’s basketball team didn’t win pretty, but they did win. The Billikens got 17 points and 12 rebounds from junior center Ian Vouyoukas in a 56-42 win over Southern Illinois.

Vouyoukas kept the Billikens (2-1) in the game early on, scoring 10 of SLU’s first 19 points. Offense was at a premium, as SLU made just eight field goals in the first half and 10 in the second half, but shot 46.2 percent from the field. It was their defense that was most impressive. The Billikens held the Salukis (2-3) to 28.3 percent from the field for the game and six-of-25 in the second half. SIU was way off the mark from behind the arc, hitting just two of 17 three pointers.

Anthony Drejaj had 12 points for SLU and Justin Johnson added ten. Jefferson City native Jamaal Tatum led SIU with 11 points.
