If you feel a little rumbling under your tires as you move too close to one side of the road, there’s probably nothing wrong with your vehicle. But there could be something wrong with your driving. The State Transportation Department’s Melissa Black says her agency has put in grooves on the edges of some roads to wake up motorists who stray too far. Black says running off the road has become the second-leading cause of death on the state’s roads. Ironically, these rumble stripes are part of the transportation department’s Smooth Roads Initiative.
