Missouri gets by with only a minor factory closing in General Motors’ announcement that it will close several factories and cut its workforce by 30,000. The Parts Distribution Center in Hazelwood will close, but even that comes with a silver lining. General Motors plans to convert it into a collision center. State Economic Development Department Spokesman Paul Sloca says it appears GM plans to retain its investment in Missouri. Sloca says the effect of the Hazelwood closing isn’t clear. It could mean a loss of about 200 jobs, but that might be offset, at least somewhat, with the conversion of the facility into a collision center.
