While he didn’t grab the championship, there’s no denying Carl Edwards’ success in his first full season on the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series. Edwards finished fourth in the season finale in Miami and wrapped up 2005 tied for second in points with Greg Biffle, who won on Sunday. The two drivers were 35 points behind Tony Stewart, who won his second title.

St. Louis native Rusty Wallace was 13th on Sunday, in what will be one of his last races ever. Wallace announced last year that 2005 would be his final season, but left open the possibility of racing occasionally. In his last full season, he finished eight in points.

Jamie McMurray, of Joplin, wasn’t in the race for the cup, but finished almost as high as he could in the points for someone out of the race .He was 12th, just behind Jeff Gordon. McMurray finished Sunday’s race in 18th place.

Fenton native Ken Schrader was 22nd on Sunday and was 31st in points.
