On Saturday, Worth County will face Mound City for the 2005 MSHSAA Eight-Man Football Championship. The game will be played at Spratt Stadium on the Missouri Western University campus in St. Joseph. The eight-man field consists of 18 teams, most of which are in the Northwest portion of the state.

Many eight-man proponents are pushing for the title game to be played at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, along with Classes 1-6. Mound City head coach Chuck Borey, who also heads an advisory committee for eight-man football is attending the Iowa state championships, where eight-man titles are played along with the eleven-man classes in Cedar Falls. The purpose of the trip is to look into how they transform the field for the eight-man game. Eight-man football is played on an 80 yard-by-40 yard field. His findings will be turned over to the MSHSAA.

Worth City (11-0) will go in search of its fifth state title, while Mound City (10-1) will vie for its third.

The first eight-man championship in Missouri was in 1988.
