The Rams placed left guard Tom Nutten on injured reserve Wednesday because of a bulging disc in his neck. The move ends his season and whether or not he returns to football is still a question mark. Twice before Nutten has announced his intent to retire, only to return.

The first attempt to call it quits came after the 2003 season, as he battled an elbow injury. After a year away from the NFL, he returned last season, when the Rams offensive line needed help in training camp. He again announced that he would retire, but was back with the Rams this season, starting six games.

Nutten won’t comment on his future until after he deals with the neck injury, which is expected to take six-to-eight weeks to hear.
