Light snow, strong winds and heavy rain give Missourians plenty to talk about around the water cooler today. Some folks in southeast Missouri might have had to empty their rain gauges a couple of times yesterday. The National Weather Service says seven to ten inches of rain fell in 24 hours. Tornadoes were reported in Mississippi and New Madrid Counties. About a dozen people had to be rescued from various predicaments. Some schools closed because bus routes were flooded. A report in Shannon county says the rain gauge showed five-and-a-third inches of rain and “water everywhere.” In Ozark County, in southwest Missouri, three and three-quarters inches of rain were reported, with flash flooding in many town streets and rural roads. In North Missouri – snow – an inch or so in some places.
