One of the leaders of the St. Louis baby tooth survey in the 1950’s has died in University City. He was Dr. Alfred Schwartz, a retired pediatrician. In the 1950’s, he was vice president of the Greater St. Louis Citizen Committee for Nuclear Information, which decided baby teeth could hold evidence of fallout from nuclear weapons. The study of about 300,000 baby teeth found the teeth absorbed nuclear material. Those findings helped create a ban on atmospheric testing of nuclear weapons. Schwarz was 92.
