Former NBC Nightly News Anchorman Tom Brokaw said at a college appearance near Branson that he was not prepared for the response he received when The Greatest Generation was first published a few years ago. Brokaw told a packed house at the College of the Ozarks that duty and honor shaped those who came from the Great Depression and fought in World War II in the Pacific and European theatres. Brokaw said for even the people at home, sacrifice was part of life. Brokaw added that what they learned in those life-altering experiences they applied to the building of the country we enjoy today. Brokaw and College of the Ozarks President Jerry Davis honored special members of the Greatest Generation during the convocation. Harry Basore, class of 1935, was a Navy fighter pilot in France and the Pacific. Bonita Bailey, Class of 1944, went to work in the Pentagon preparing telegrams that all families dreaded recieving and John T. Brown, former staff member at School of the Ozarks was a three-time prisoner of war by both the Germans and Russians.
