A Columbia oncologist has agreed to pay a one million dollar fine and give up his medical license to settle a lawsuit brought by the federal government, which accuses him of defrauding Medicare. Doctor James Huesser practiced in Columbia and Sedalia as well as other central Missouri hospitals. Federal prosecutor Todd Graves accuses Huesser of defrauding Medicare and re-using chemotheraphy drugs designed for one use only. Graves is quick to point out the case is not similar to the infamous Kansas City pharmacist case, in which the pharmacist was found guilty of diluting cancer-fighting drugs. Graves calls rooting out Medicare fraud a top priority of his office.
