Major League Baseball’s Players’ Choice Awards were announced on Thursday and two players who earn their money in Missouri were honored.

Cardinals’ starter Chris Carpenter won the National League Outstanding Pitcher Award for his 21-5 record, 2.83 ERA and 213 strikeouts. At one point, Carpenter won 13 straight decisions. In 2004 Carpenter won the NL Comeback Player Award.

Royals’ first baseman Mike Sweeney was named the Major League Baseball Man of the Year. He donated over $100,000 to build an inner city baseball park in Kansas City.
