President Bush’s call for billions of dollars to deal with bird flu has some Missourians asking about the possibility of an oubreak. Missouri is not at risk – At least not yet! The President’s request for money is a precaution being taken so that this country will be ready for the feared bird flu pandemic. Eddie Hedrick with the State Health Department says this is no reason to panic – neither is the discovery, in Canada, of migratory ducks with a strain of bird flu. Hedrick says that while there’s no immediate threat, it is likely that we will see an epidemic – one day. Hedrick says it’s important for health officials to plan now for the large scale distribution of a vaccine.
